The legendary New York Cosmos team is reforming in style with new releases of the their classic kit by UK sportwear manufacturer Umbro. The all star football team which used to include football heroes such as Pele and Beckenbauer is reforming with Pele and Eric Cantona.
During their time in between 1971-1985 before unfortunately going out of business due Pele leaving the club and the general the decline of the North American Soccer League, the New York Cosmos won 5 national tournaments and the Transatlantic Cup 3 times.
Since the failure of the club there have been numerous attempts to reform and re-launch the club, unfortunately without success. However an announcement by the new Honorary president, Pele, in August 2010 marked the return of the Cosmos back to football.
Classic Football Clothing with a great heritage
In 1971, when the team founded, the colours green and yellow where chosen in a bid to attract Brazilian Footballer Pele over to the team in the United States. Purely by chance these colours were very similar to the New York Generals, which had recently collapsed at the end of the 1968 season. Pele did join the club in 1975 which led to the colours of the kit changing to an all-white look to mimic Peles former club from Brazil, Santos.
The new kit for the reformed team is being tailored and produced by UK clothing manufacturer, Umbro. The new kit takes it's inspiration from the 1977 kit which was worn by Pele during his last ever pro football game.
This inspiration and influence can clearly be seen in the new releases of the kits with the recognizable green and yellow collar. The shirt also includes the classic number 10 on the back along with the Pele name. Other on field products include a black goalkeepers shirt, whit shorts, and some great looking white socks with green and yellow stripes.
Along with the fantastic range of on-field clobber there is a range of off-field gear to compliment it. One of the best looking pieces is the Anthem Jacket in the same eye catching Brazilian green with yellow and white stripes around the collar. On the back of the jacket is the striking New York Cosmos logo in high quality print.
Another classic off-field piece is the classic 76-77 white shirt, again featuring the famous Pele number 10. Those of your familiar with the Umbro shorts will be happy to know that the classic checkerboard style will be joining the rest of the cosmos line up.
