In soccer, referee's has its own duties too.

The ultimate and primordial duty of a soccer referee is to carry out the game laws fairly. The referee is the one responsible also for the reporting of any incidents before, during and after matches including mandatory disciplinary actions enforced upon players by team authorities. The referee also takes over the responsibility of the timekeeper in the absence of latter. For a valid reason, the referee may postpone or suspend, terminate and or stop any match. Infringement or violation of any laws is valid reason for such.

Outside interference is a signal also for the referee to cancel, terminate or suspend the ensuing game if it deems necessary. The referee can make decisions over the offenses committed by the players during the game and penalizing them if necessary. It is in the power and duties of the referee also to dismiss from the pitch, any team officials who misbehaved or doing misconducts. The soccer field is the referee's territory, that's why he has the authority to send outside the field any unauthorized person or even players who enters the field without any permission from the referee.

Aside from penalizing violators of the law, the referee is responsible also for inspecting the equipment's standards. Most of all, the referee's decision is final.

The duty of the soccer referee exceeds that of the players albeit the referee is not a player per se. Aside from earning a lead score against the opponent in order to win, any team member must respect the referee for the referee's decision can make any team win.
